I-285 Advanced Improvement Projects
The Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) will build a better Georgia through enhanced mobility and safety, fueling economic growth, and improving quality of life. Through these major projects, Georgia DOT will deliver some of the nation’s most innovative transportation solutions and newest engineering and technological advances.
As the MMIP has developed and design work has progressed, we’ve evaluated how we are delivering the program and refined it to advance six improvement projects along I-285. Advancing these projects, which were already part of the MMIP, will provide local road improvements earlier, mitigate traffic challenges during the construction of the major express lanes’ projects, provide early operational improvements to the I-285 general purpose lanes, and maintain healthy competition among our construction developer partners.

Project Public Participation
Public Detour Open Houses (PDOHs)
A virtual Public Detour Open House (PDOH) was held for the proposed bridge replacement at Redwing Circle over I-285, part of the I-285 Eastside Bridge Replacements project. The comment period for this PDOH closed July 13, 2020. Materials shown on the virtual PDOH page can be found in the Document Library.
Public Information Open Houses (PIOHs)
A series of Public Information Open Houses (PIOHs) for three of the I-285 Advanced Improvement Projects were held in January 2020:
- I-285 Westbound Ramp Extension
- I-285/Peachtree Industrial Boulevard Interchange Improvements
- I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane Extension
The purpose of these meetings was to provide opportunities for the public to view current plans, ask questions, and provide feedback.
If you would like to view the materials that were shown at the PIOHs materials, please visit the Document Library.
Noise Barriers
Noise barriers were evaluated as part of this project in accordance with the Georgia DOT noise policy and Federal Highway Administration noise regulations. Property owners and renters who would benefit from a proposed noise barrier were given the opportunity to participate in noise barrier voting. Click here to view the noise barrier fact sheet.
